Our History
Founded in 2011, Karen’s Equine Intervention, Inc. began in Loxahatchee, Florida, as a small community-oriented therapeutic environment where the process of rehabilitating former Thoroughbred racehorses was utilized to offer a non-clinical setting to assist those dealing with depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Founder and president Nora Janssen, R.N. has years of experience as an ER nurse and patient advocate. With a strong love for horses from an early age, Ms. Janssen learned from some of the best horsemen and veterinarians at Belmont Park Equine Hospital, where she assisted with surgeries and equine medical care. Ms. Janssen maintains her advanced cardiac and basic life support credentials and receives continuous medical education in her fields of practice. She named Karen’s Equine Intervention after her beloved daughter, Karen, who passed away in 2011.
